Mayor Bloomberg Gets Flu Shot, Urges New Yorkers To Do The Same -- Health Commissioner: Flu Is Third Leading Cause Of Death In New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg turned his annual flu shot into a public service announcement, urging New Yorkers to protect themselves from influenza. The mayor got his flu shot from pharmacist Barbara Naprawa at a Duane Reade pharmacy in lower Manhattan. “Literally can’t feel it,” Bloomberg told reporters during the injection. He even refused a band-aid afterward, WCBS 880′s Rich Lamb reported. “Flu season is almost upon us and the best way to avoid getting the flu is to get a flu shot. It’s also the best way to prevent the flu from spreading to someone else. So if you get a shot, you’re not only protecting yourself you are protecting your family members and those you love,” Bloomberg said. (CBS)

Sacramento International Airport May Replace TSA With Private Security The Sacramento International Airport is considering making a security change, and it could mean getting rid of TSA agents. Long lines and long faces are usually what TSA security checkpoint employees see everyday. But now the airport may be the third largest airport in the country to replace these government workers with ones from a private company. “It’s a win-win for everything has no bearing on security procedure or the processes the public has become accustomed to,” said Linda Beech Cutler, Sacramento International Airport. So far passengers at large airports like San Francisco and Kansas City are becoming accustomed to the same plan already in place. Fourteen smaller airports around the country have also joined the screening partnership program. (CBS)

New Homeland Security Laser Scanner Reads People At Molecular Level WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – The Department of Homeland Security will soon be using a laser at airports that can detect everything about you from over 160-feet away. Gizmodo reports a scanner that could read people at the molecular level has been invented. This laser-based scanner – which can be used 164-feet away — could read everything from a person’s adrenaline levels, to traces of gun powder on a person’s clothes, to illegal substances — and it can all be done without a physical search. It also could be used on multiple people at a time, eliminating random searches at airports. The laser-based scanner is expected to be used in airports as soon as 2013, Gizmodo reports. The scanner is called the Picosecond Programmable Laser. The device works by blasting its target with lasers which vibrate molecules that are then read by the machine that determine what substances a person has been exposed to. This could be Semtex explosives to the bacon and egg sandwich they had for breakfast that morning. (CBS)

ATF Fast and Furious: New documents show Attorney General Eric Holder was briefed in July 2010 New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress. On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks." Yet internal Justice Department documents show that at least ten months before that hearing, Holder began receiving frequent memos discussing Fast and Furious. (CBS)

Millions of Bees Mysteriously Die in Florida Florida officials are abuzz as to how millions of honey bees were killed in Brevard County. Several beekeepers in the county have reported lost colonies this week. Charles Smith of Smith Family Honey Company told Stuart News Thursday he lost 400 beehives. He says the bees appeared to have been poisoned. “I’ll never get completely compensated for this unless someone handed me 400 beehives,” Smith told Stuart News. “I lost the bees, the ability to make honey and the ability to sell the bees.” Smith told Florida Today that he lost $150,000 from the incident. State officials are testing the bees to determine what type of chemicals contributed to their deaths. (CBS)

Expert: Security Checkpoints Near Soft Targets May Soon Become The Norm -- A Day May Come When You'll Be Patted Down Going Into Stores Counter terrorism experts say a retaliation attack for Osama bin Laden’s death is inevitable. Terrorists are expected to aim for more vulnerable soft targets like shopping malls or museums. They are places jam-packed with people — pedestrian malls, shopping centers and stadiums. “Yeah, I feel safe. But of course in the back of my head I know that things can happen,” one person told CBS 2’s Hazel Sanchez. Counter terrorism expert Juval Aviv said terrorists seeking revenge for Osama bin Laden’s death will turn to attacks less dramatic than the destruction on Sept. 11 — focusing instead on soft targets like hotels, places of worship and mass transit hubs. Beware of Governments Trumpeting Terror Threats Fans of the movie Men in Black will be smirking quietly at the European terror plot story currently circulating. According to reports attributed to security forces, al Qaeda affiliated groups have been planning Mumbai-style commando attacks in western Europe - and only strikes using unmanned U.S. drones in the lawless tribal areas of Pakistan have derailed those attacks by targeting the terror cells which have been planning them. The Mumbai attacks, organized by a terror group in Pakistan, killed more than 170 people in 2008. (CBS)

Rupert Murdoch Loves Hillary Clinton: Conservative Media Mogul To Host Fundraiser For Liberal N.Y. Senator To call them a political odd couple would be a rash understatement. Conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch will host a fundraiser for liberal New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, the Financial Times reports. The mating ritual of the unlikely allies has been under way for months. Clinton set political tongues to wagging last month by attending a Washington party celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fox News, the cable news channel owned by Murdoch. The Financial Times quoted one unnamed source as describing the Clinton-Murdoch connection in this way: "They have a respectful and cordial relationship. He has respect for the work she has done on behalf of New York. I wouldn't say it was illustrative of a close ongoing relationship. It is not like they are dining out together." (CBS)
